Dr. Martens founded in 1947 with the original purpose of being worn by injured soldiers with their ‘bouncing soles’ cushioning and were later adopted by older women to help bad joints and hips. Over time, the company was adopted by the punk scene of the 1970s then further being worn by a more general ‘alternative’ audience.
These boots have been worn by faces such as the Beckham boys, Gigi Hadid, Kanye West and even his daughter, North. The bulky statement boots have been an ongoing essential to the perfect grunge powerful outfits.
Growing up my mum was always wearing her docs, from running day-to-day errands to weddings, she would never go a day without a pair. I got my first pair at the age of 15 and wow they were a b*tch to break in! But once they were broken in and ready, I couldn’t stop wearing them and my favourite way of wearing them was in a lazy way…
Here is three ways I, myself have taken on this unique style of footwear.
T-Shirt dresses:
I first saw the t-shirt dresses and docs style being worn by the stylish ladies of Instagram. This is the perfect outfit for when you wake up feeling lazy and can’t quite be bothered but want to look like you actually care.
Cycling Shorts and Long tops:
Although people have mixed feelings on the summer’s trend of cycling shorts, I think they’re amazing for the type of person who prefers comfort over style but still wants to look good. To me (obviously without the boots) this outfit is sleep-able which to me = extreme comfort.
Joggers
I never thought joggers and docs could look so good. A clash of two different types of style the texture of soft joggers against more tough boots is a perfect combination to show your essence of experimentation and creativity.
